About

It's the beginning of the war and Ruth Lewis, a teacher in Wales, befriends six-year-old evacuee Eddie Walker from London and meets Eddie's widowed father Jimmy. Later, as the war progresses, Ruth goes to London working as an ambulance driver. When Jimmy comes home injured he and Ruth have a short time together before he has to return to the fighting. Then a telegram arrives to say Jimmy is missing in action, but Ruth refuses to give up hope.
