Terms of use

These are the rules for using Shelfola. They are written in plain language. The privacy policy says what we store.

Updated 6 October 2026

The service

Shelfola, at shelfola.com, is a free book tracker. There is no advertising and no paid tier. You can browse the catalogue without an account. Shelves, ratings, reviews, clubs and the feed need an account. We can change, pause or remove features. The service is provided as it is available, without a promise that it will be up at every moment or that a particular feature will stay.

Your account

You sign up with an email address, a password, a display name and a handle. You confirm the email. You are responsible for keeping the password to yourself and for what happens through your account. One person, one account. Don’t register a handle that impersonates someone else.

By creating an account you agree to these terms and the Privacy policy.

What you write

Reviews, notes, posts, comments, lists and bios are yours. You give Shelfola permission to store them and to show them to the people your privacy settings allow: everyone, approved followers, club members, or only you. A review can be shown as “A private reader” when you choose that. Private notes on a book stay yours.

Don’t post anything you don’t have the right to post. We don’t claim ownership of your text. If you delete a review, a post or a list, we take that copy down.

Other readers

Be decent. No harassment, hate, spam, or spoilers left unmarked. You can report those, and you can block or mute another reader. Moderators can hide content and can suspend an account. A suspended reader can still browse and sign out. While suspended, the account can’t rate, shelve, post, or file new reports.

Imports

You may bring a library from a file you exported yourself: Goodreads, StoryGraph, Hardcover, or a spreadsheet saved as CSV. Fable does not offer an export, so a spreadsheet is the route from there. You confirm the rows before they land on your shelves, and you can undo an import. We don’t connect to those other services on your behalf. Goodreads, StoryGraph, Hardcover and Fable are trademarks of their owners. Shelfola is not affiliated with them.

The catalogue

Book pages are a shared catalogue for tracking and talking about books. They are not a shop, and tracking a book doesn’t give you a copy of it. Edition details (format, year, language, ISBN) are labels to help you pick the copy you are reading. They can be wrong; a wrong language label doesn’t move your progress or merge two books.

What this service does not include

  • No ads, and we do not sell personal data. The Privacy policy is the detail.
  • No public API.
  • No download or export of your library from Shelfola.

Stopping

You can stop using Shelfola at any time and sign out. There is no delete button in the app. Deleting the login removes the profile and the shelves, ratings, reviews, posts and other data tied to it, as the privacy policy describes. Ask us via the contact on that page and we will delete the account. We can also suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use Shelfola after that means the new terms apply. If you don’t agree, stop using the account and ask us to delete it.
